Cymbopogon (lemongrass) is a genus of about 55 species of grasses. It is a tall perennial grass.

Common names

 Common names include lemon grass, lemongrass, barbed wire grass, silky heads, citronella grass, cha de Dartigalongue, fever grass, tanglad, hierba Luisa or gavati chaha.

Uses

Lemongrass used in teas, soups, curries, fish, beef, and seafood, but the most often used as a tea.

Medical uses

Lemongrass is an invigorating tea taken as a remedy to treat and balance mood. Used in relieving headaches, nausea.  Lemongrass is a supporting tool for colds and cough treatment, nasal congestion, laryngitis and fever. Help in gastrointestinal diseases, colitis, and flatulence.

Used as thrush and vaginal infections treatment. Used for liver detoxification. Drinking cold relieves hangover syndrome (2 cups during the day).

Contraindications

 Can lower blood pressure, so is not recommended for people with low blood pressure.

Black Pepper Health Benefits - Natural Cold Treatment

There is no current medical evidence that any of these treatments has any benefit; pepper applied directly to the eye would be quite uncomfortable and possibly damaging. Black pepper is widely used in traditional Indian medicine and as a home remedy for relief from sore throat, throat congestion, cough etc.

Other uses
Pepper known to cause sneezing. Some sources say that piperine irritates the nostrils, causing the sneezing. Some studies shown that piperine can increase absorption of selenium, vitamin B, beta-carotene and curcumin.

Nervous system
Piperine is known as a central nervous system depressant and has good anticonvulsant and antimicrobial properties.

Dietary
Pepper contains small amounts of safrole, a mildly carcinogenic compound. Eliminated from the diet of patients having abdominal surgery and ulcers because of its irritating effect upon the intestines.In extracts from black pepper have been found  antioxidant properties and anti-carcinogenic effects.

Pharmacology
Piperine present in black pepper acts as a thermogenic compound. Piperine enhances the thermogenesis of lipid and promotes energy metabolism in the body, increases the serotonin and beta-endorphin production in the brain.

Cinnamon has long history from antiquity.
Cinnamon bark is widely used as a spice and as a flavouring agent for wine, in cookery as a condiment and flavouring material. Used in the preparation of chocolate. Cinnamon also used in many dessert recipes, such as apple pie, doughnuts, and cinnamon buns as well as spicy candies, tea, hot cocoa, cider and liqueurs. In the Middle East often used in savoury dishes of chicken and lamb. In the United States, cinnamon and sugar added to flavour cereals, bread-based dishes, and fruits, especially apples. Cinnamon bark is one of the few spices that can be consumed directly. Cinnamon powder has long been an important spice in Eastern countrys, used in a variety of thick soups, drinks, and sweets.  It is used in Turkish cuisine for sweet and savoury dishes.

Other uses
Cinnamon proposed for use as an insect repellent. Cinnamon leaf oil found as very effective in killing mosquito larvae. Doctors used cinnamon, as a warm and dry substance, in ancient times to cure snakebites, freckles, the common cold, and kidney troubles.

Pharmacology
Some studies have shown that of the 69 plant species screened, 16 were effective in vitro against HIV-1 and four were against both HIV-1 and HIV-2. The most effective extracts against HIV-1 and HIV-2 were respectively Cinnamomum cassia and Cardiospermum helicacabum.
 Essential oil from the leaves of the cinnamon tree has antiviral properties in vitro, specifically against both the HSV-1 and HSV-2 (Oral and Genital Herpes) viruses. Studys have shown benefits of cinnamon in diet of type 2 diabetics.

Diabete
Cinnamon improves glucose and lipids of people with type 2 diabetes and has potent antiviral properties.
